THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY IN LABEL EMBELLISHMENTS

If you haven't picked up on it yet, we like to stay on top of the latest and greatest technology available in the label world (it's kind of our 'thing'), and this past year we stumbled upon a brand new embellishment technology that hadn't yet reached the Canadian labelling industry... so naturally, we had to have it.

This new embellishment technology is ...drumroll... a High-Speed Raised UV Screen Printing Unit! What is that exactly? Well, to put it simply, it's comparable to embossing but it provides more creative flexibility, creates a higher-raised feel/look at a fraction of the cost, and it can be completed faster. Oh, and it's super cool.

How does it work? We're glad you asked! All you have to do is identify which parts of your label design would look great with an extra embellishment and then we take care of the rest. (The technical explanation -- we get a custom plate made for your design, cure a UV liquid over the plate in a passing motion that builds up, solidifies, and creates a raised effect).

Our good friends at Boombox Brewing created an amazing record label (not for signing new artists, but for their "Just The Hits" India Pale Ale) and raised the circular lines to make it look like a real record. How cool is that?

I was extremely impressed with the quality of the raised effect that Summit achieved on the label for 'Just the Hits'. The visual depth and physical texture that it added put it on another level.

RAISED TEXTURED LABELS

  • How long does it take to do?

Adding a high-build UV embellishment to your labels will extend your completion date by an extra 2-3 business days on the first order (as we will need to create a custom plate). Once the custom plate is in-house, the extra 2-3 business days will not apply to future repeat orders.

  • How should I set my artwork file up, in order to communicate what images/text should be raised?
When setting up your artwork file, please create a separate layer called "High Build UV" and include any items in this layer that you would like to have the raised embellishment on.

  • Can my plate be reused, or do I have to purchase a new one for every label order?
A high-build UV plate can be reused on same-sized labels, but they cannot be adjusted or altered (ie, the raised elements would have to have the same placement for each label design that uses the specific plate).
